Some random thoughts
I think I would like a guard chicken.
Sometimes I pretend I don’t understand Spanish.
I miss hearing my native tongue in a familiar accent.
Jose from Córdoba checked in on me today to be sure i would make it. The distance wasn’t so rough today but the terrain and whether sucked. Another big climb to Punto de Acebo. Thank God–well really I have been thanking him do a LOT of things–for the little bar at the bottom of the point-_warm, dry with hot coffee to drink and a bathroom. It was a little surreal as different pilgrims came in and then Bob Dillon songs playing. There’s a play here, I just need to find it. And he had a collection of watches. Hmmmm.
And then another blessing Meson Catro Vietos–things are said and spelled differently here after all this is Galacia! (Yeah, think I forgot to mention I crossed the Asturian /Galacian border). At Catro Vietos I was only going to get a drink and rest but the place smell so good and the were cooking them over a fire right there at the bar–done!
I’ve also given in. For the next two legs I’m going to let my backpack be transported in between stops. I could probably carry it but I don’t know if I would enjoy the walk so much and I’m not sure over these next very long days if I want to do any damage to myself that I can’t recover from for the last easier stages of the walk.
As someone said to me, no one weighs your backpack in Santiago. True that.
I has sean some older women in the hostel last night with big backpacks and I asked them where they had come from; they’d come from a stop 26 very hard kilometers back. I was wondering how bad a sharp I was in not to have been able to do the same thing. And then when they passed me on the Camino, I realized they could do it because they had their bags transported.
Even though I’m going to have my pack transported tomorrow I was feel no shame and make no one else feel bad for it.

  1. I think it’s very smart!!! Like you said, there’s no need to cause any more wear and tear on the body, particularly since you’ve been battling foot issues. I hope you’ve managed to enjoy those days.
